WK3 EOC: TO keep or not to keep

-no do not support actions of the house keeping supervisor
-for not supporting choice does not mean it will allow employees to begin to set their own schedule
-this is one particular isolated incident
-why wasn't another worker called in, you've often called Donna to cover shifts
-should of thought about your credibility before making a rash decision based on personal emotion
-the situation should have been discussed with another higher up
-as a general manager i have to fix your mistake and ask for a good employee to return

EOC week8: 9 to 5

In 9 to 5 the main character dressed professionally to her job interview even though it was her first time since she was a married woman.

week 6: where are you going


Currently I am working with a luxury fashion house and I am growing tremendously with the company. I am working on my one year plan with them, which actually includes leaving the company in order to get managerial experience overseeing several departments. This will give me a boost for my return to the company in order to move up the chain. I am also writing for publications, as well as internally for the company. I hope to continue to contribute to internal writing even after stepping down from my current position. The company has put much faith in my hard work and have been nothing but supportive.

I also hope to take charge of my family company. My family owns several business in Mexico and I hope that with the knowledge I gain from my degree I can expand the family company, first introducing it into the United States and moving on to a more global market.

wk1 EOC: my voice

I never enjoy doing an about me, because it’s tedious, but here it goes. I am the kind of person that enjoys analyzing. I do well with managing large groups and being able to get messages across. I am 46% extrovert and 54% introvert according to a personality test I took. I prefer to work alone, but work very well in groups especially in a leadership role. 
Public speaking is one of my better qualities. I can stand in front of a group and present without hesitation or sweaty palms. Perhaps being a dancer has helped me with presenting; it’s like performing on stage with a large crowd watching your every move. I can manage very well because I pay close attention to details and organization. Break a major project into small task is what I do best. Though I am quiet creative I am also very business orientated and determined in accomplishing a goal with all my T’s crossed and I’s dotted. At times I can be comical and I am usually the one breaking the ice in awkward situations. I am East Coast bred, so sometimes my more sarcastic side can shine through. This is the voice I use when writing. I consider myself a writer, an always artist.

Week 9: The Apartment

There was so much going on this movie. The main character was lending out his apartment to several individuals at his job, mainly in positions above him, for them to have their affairs. They pretty much rented out the apartment. Also, the main character fell in love with the woman his boss was having an affair with. The boss had him watch over this woman as a "nurse".

At the work holiday party some of them were overly drunk and the assistant to the boss told the mistress about his previous relationships with other women in the company. The boss then fired this assistant, which did not go with the work policy. She then told his wife.

The individuals in higher positions hired the main character into a position whether he was qualified or not was not mentioned. One could assume he was given the position simply for renting out the apartment.

EOC week 6: Discovering Job Placement

Director of Women's Merchandising 
This title requires 10+ years experience and hold a lot of responsibilities. This is a position to grow towards and not something that can just be picked up. I currently work with a luxury fashion how and have many years in retail experience. I am looking to gain managerial experience within the next year in order to move towards the goal of filling such a job. This job also requires much traveling, which I enjoy. I have always enjoyed traveling and would greatly appreciate a position that allows me to travel through the globe, especially to major fashion capitals like Paris. This particular positions works out of New York, another fashion capital. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and drive sound profitable merchandising business plans that stay true to the brand and zone strategy while meeting consumers’ needs. 
  • Build strategic plans by category and location to deliver financial objectives while continually analyzing performance and making adjustments to ensure results.
  • Manage all product launches to ensure the opportunities for new business is maximized and sell throughs are achieved; inclusive of strategies when performance falls short.
  • Consistent presence in market needed to ensure the understanding of markets/clients to inform buy as well as to animate store network; bringing awareness and motivation around merchandising strategies. 
  • Attend and actively participate in Paris buying sessions 4 or more times per year (2 weeks at a time) that tie back to financial plans and product initiatives. 
  • Relay back buying initiatives to all corporate partners (Supply Chain, Visual Merchandising, Finance, Communications, Client Development, Training, Digital) and develop initiatives and tools to deliver to store organization to ensure the sales. 
  • Vet buys with Finance and their impact to the budget build. 
  • Work with supply chain to optimize inventory dissemination/efficiencies.
  • Direct and lead the execution of assortment in the store with Visual Merchandising for all product launches and store openings.
  • Actively organize and drive needed product trainings and communication tools for the store network.
  • Create incentives, trunk shows, selling events as well as innovative and creative special concepts to drive sales in store with Client Development team.
  • Constant follow-up with analysis of merchandise strategies to Corporate and Paris partners, inclusive of feedback to Paris on the needs of the America’s market. 
  • Lead a team of Managers/Sr. Managers, Associate Merchandisers and Merchandising Assistants.
  • Attract, retain and develop a high-performing, highly educated world-class team of merchants. Continually evaluate and promote succession plans for the group.

SCHEDULE
  • May require evening, weekend and holiday availability on an as needed basis and as required for travel
  • Travel to Paris at least 4 times per year for 1-2 weeks at a time for markets, and travel to store visits and sales meetings regularly

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree a plus

EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years merchandising and buying experience experience in a retail specialty or luxury environment

  • Experience working with a foreign parent company a plus. Must be able to establish credibility with Paris headquarters to influence assortment strategies. 
  • Advanced degree a plus, as is foreign language skill.
  • Someone able to travel both domestically and internationally more than 50% of the time to Paris and store network.

wk4 EOC: hire or not to hire

I agree with the approach it should be known, but like any other question it should only be considered
-it shouldn't be the only thing that determines whether they get the position or not
-it should be discussed when/if they choose to bring them in
-the applicant should be comfortable to discuss this.
